Studio-X Amman is a regional platform for experimental design and research run by Columbia GSAPP and the Columbia Global Centers | Amman. Through workshops, lectures, screenings, and field visits, Studio-X Amman brings together Columbia GSAPP students and faculty with practitioners, researchers, and students from the Arab World to critically reflect on the role of architectural education and practice in times if mass displacement, dispossession, and destruction
ABOUT STUDIO-X’S LIBRARY (JAL)
The Janet Abu-Lughod Library (JAL) is a dedicated library collection housed at Studio-X Amman. The Janet Abu-Lughod Library was donated to Columbia GSAPP and the Columbia Global Centers | Amman by Professor of Anthropology and Women's Studies, Lila Abu-Lughod and her family. Through a lifetime of work that illumined villages and world systems, ancient histories and modernization processes, Chicago and Cairo, Abu-Lughod’s insights transformed the fields of urban sociology, Middle Eastern studies and world history. This collection of works from Janet Abu-Lughod’s personal library, many bearing her own marginalia, reflects the full variety of her interests and the extent of her influence.
